We all have a different definition on destiny.

Me?

I believe in the saying that "Destiny is not a matter of chance , it is a matter of choice..."

How about you?

I believe your absoulutely right.
We each make our own choice. Right or wrong, it's what we have, that choice. Give or take, come what may. You make your choice, or rather, your opinion, whether it's right, or wrong. What you think was right, or maybe, sometimes wrong, then you decide, if you made the the right choice then, well; It's all past tense, by the time you figure it out.Whoops, You just go from then on, trying to figure it out from there. Seems like we make those "missakes" all the time. But, what can you do? Notta. Just go on from there. That's what we do, grow up, and learn. Try not to make the same mistakes again. Sooner or later, hopefully, we find the right person whom we can relate to, and get along with. AND, if we really get lucky, maybe fall in l@ve with. But this is all just wishful thunking, isn't it? Whether it's love of life, or love of another, it's the same thing. Sometimes, I feel like I've had both, and then, missed out on both. All we can do is go on from there. And believe it or not, things will work out if you give it a chance.

I agree, we can decide on what we want to do and make a decision to do it if we really want it....

:)

I agree also. We were given free will, and we need to be careful how we use it!

My father was a drunk, his father was a drunk and untill just recently I was a drunk also (still am but a non-practicing one). My mother has told me that I'll die just like her Father and My fathers father, of scirosis of the liver. Some would say it was my DESTINY. Well I am sober today and have made A CHOICE to be that way. I feel that we are in many ways controlled by a destiny of sorts. But I feel it is more of a karmic destiny, i.e, the choices we make today will define our tomorrows. I am so glad I found this sight. it is great to have a forum where so many different topics are discussed and by seemingly bright folks at that.

I found my destiny some time ago, I married her. And now I wished I hadn't looked so hard...

I really like all your insight, Danielle, by the way where have you been hiding yourself lately? Your thoughts for the day are really missed around here.

freewill is very likely an illusion, especially if you believe in classical science as we're taught in school. we are material beings and matter is subject to the laws of nature, so choice or freewill is not possible and merely an illusion...many believe this.
however, if you believe in a spiritual/metalphysical realm then freewill comes back into play....and if you believe your freewill is real, then you must acknowledge a higher level of existence which we know nothing about. personally i believe in freewill, but also in destiny as a separate element. there are some very interesting books on the subject of freewill, destiny, soulmates, etc. (and i don't want to type 10 pages), that make very convincing arguments for their existence. but, nobody on the face of the earth really knows?
