maybe they know something we don't? i've been observing this phenomenon for some time. at the market this morning, one woman wrote a check for $3.85 and 2 others had card transactions for similar amounts. two men and myself paid cash and the line quickly disappeared. it's probably been a year since i saw a woman use cash...even obviously rich ones. anyway, i've been wondering about it for a while?
:)
I don't know about all women, but for items such as you mentioned, I always pay cash.
(unless I forgot to go the ATM) Hey! maybe that is the reason.

When things seem easy and fool proof, thats the way they go i have found.
They never have to carry change or bills to be robbed, they dont have to do math to see if they got the right change. ect ect.
But 1 day when we go to a cash less country , how do we pay little johnny for cleaning the drive way. and if he does have a bank card reader on him, the goverment will know how and were he got his money. maybe even tax the poor kid.

I don't carry cash as to not be robbed. If my card is stolen I can cancel it and dispute any charges I did not make. Also I can track all my expenses through my bank statement. I never have to say where did I spend all that money??? I have records of every purchase I make. I know it is a boring answer but maybe that will give you some insight;)
May be they have no money

I agree with you about the woman who never pay with cash..
I don't think it's gender related
more and more people are using cards to pay for stuff rather than cash
it's more convenient to carry a card rather than a change purse or wallet
I still pay with cash though:D well for some things not others
